The Last Word

That window shade put me in such a good word that I promised to give the last word in a debate to the person I have been debating with.

Not being able to say anything is killing me.

But, my word is my word. I shall not go back on it.

I'm curious...Have you heard about the Adams County SD in Colorado that is doing away with grade levels? Instead of being in 10th grade classes or 11th grade classes, students will be allowed to progress once they have shown mastery of a concept/class and not until then.

Their new system won't go into effect until next school year, but I think it's an interesting method. And it might solve some of the problems that you've been talking about with social promotion, etc.

What do you think?

That sounds like an interesting plan but I doubt if it would be ever be used in NYC--it would cost too much money and we all know it is all about the $$$.

Many of the people in power don't believe in letting kids have any extra time in high school.

Or letting students graduate early. Or believe in an exam being able to accurately assess Mastery.

I see places where teachers standards are higher of the state and keep students in a failing cycle even though they have shown mastery on exam.

But... what is Mastery. That would be the debate. Interesting idea, I like it... Maybe they will do that at Packemin - Why don't you ask the Principal.

ohhh... and I can't believe you let that so call Educational Scientist get the last word in. Let him/her have it! Don't get soft on us P.O. :)
