Another Reason Why I Can't Retire

My phone rings during lunch.

Me: Hi, what's up?

Husband: Where is it?

Me: Where is what?

Husband: It, you moved it.

Me: What did I move?

Husband: It, why did you touch it?

Me: Tell me what it is and I might be able to tell you where I put it.

Husband: (getting irritated) IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Me: I still don't know what it is?

Husband: Yes, you do, it was there yesterday.

Me: Look by the chess set, it might be there. If not I'll find it when I get home. I can't look for it now.

(I hang up before he can say another word)

My husband has been not working by choice for the last two years. IMHO, he's too young (58 at the time)to retire and may go back to work at some point.

He has found some interesting things to occupy his time--home decorating is one, he calls it feng shui. I come home and he has dug pictures out of the basement and hung them around the house. It doesn't seem to matter that they are outdated, wrong color, etc. This weekend he decided to make a lamp out of my son's telescope legs--he saw a picture on the cover of the Restoration Hardware catalog. He brings outdoors plants in the house--they are dead from last fall!! His latest task was to trim the facial hair off my son's Schnauzers who are visitng for the weekend!! Yikes, get the man a JOB!

Hilarious post! I'm semi going through this with my husband being out of job right now. I hate to admit it, but I'm glad I leave the house at 7:00 am and don't return till 5:00 pm. I don't answer my phone at work either! I just tell him I was too busy to ever look at!

The few times I did answer my phone it was questions like, what do you want to have for dinner, or where do you keep this or that? AAARGH!

He had an awful job with an awful commute. At 53 we decided, "enough is enough" and he retired. He was able to defer his pension so he did not lose any money.

Both of our kids are grown and I make enough for both of us. (We don't need much.) Besdies, I am still veryhappy at work. I'd rather have a happy, healthy husband than a stressed one.

He's the best he has been for years. I just know to keep us both this way, I have to keep working.

I have another good story like this one in the works and I am sure there will be many more to come.

You know what PO'd- be grateful that he has found a way to occupy his time that doesn't include Internet chat rooms and online whores (could I be talking about my ex???? hmmmmm.....)

Sign me single again and loving it!
