Addiction

Took a cell phone away from a girl today.

She then spent the period holding her calculator like a  phone and pushed buttons the entire period, pretending she was texting.  (She was not doing this to give me a hard time, that is not her style.)

I've heard of strange addictions before, but this one takes the cake.

It does not shock me.....Have a kid here in rural Texas who checks his phone every 15 minutes. You can set your watch by it....never sends a text back....

Many of my students are addicted to their cell phones, and when I mention it to a kid, they'll say to me, "My mother says the same thing, miss!!" Some appear to be taking their phones out every few minutes...15 minutes is an eternity to them, especially when it's math.

this was something to similar on an episode of Modern Family. Julie Bowen's character (Claire) wanted her family to abstain from technology for a week. So her teenage daughter ended up coloring a bar of soap with a black marker. She used the bar of soap as a gag pretending she was on the phone.

Very funny story, Pissed Off! I can so identify. I took a phone away from a young girl once and she started crying so hard she was shaking. At first I thought she was joking around because it looked like fake shaking. Then she looked up and her face was all wet with tears. I couldn't help it, I just cracked up and said, "honey, you need to get a hold of yourself, this isn't the end of the world!" The whole class got a huge kick out of this incident and lightheartedly teased her about it for the rest of the school year.
