Science Fiction

Sam is a cutter.  His guidance counselor, his mom, phone calls, don't help.  Finally, I told him about the "chip".  The "chip" is a little tracking device, that with parental approval is implanted in the back of a student's neck.  Every teacher has access to the code and when Sam is not in class, they push a button which forces the head to twitch back and forth uncontrollably.  The twitching will only stop when Sam is in the same room as the detonator.  I asked Sam if he thought his mom would go for it and he said "probably" and looked a little nervous.  Today, before class, I talked to Sam about the "chip" again  and he assured me he wanted no part of it.

Sam has returned to class before so his improved attendance is not really a sign that my little science fiction story is working, but it was worth a chance.  Nothing else seemed to help.

Wonderful creativity. It is brilliant.

In the elementary schools when children take 'too long' coming back from class, we tell the students that we will 'check recordings in the principal's office' to find out their whereabouts.

You're a riot!! I'm a little surprised that he bought it, though. Then again, kids these days see movies with much stranger ideas in their story lines, so maybe it's not that surprising afterall.

we have a girl (high school - mildly mentally impaired) who keeps hollering that she is going to commit suicide. After a year of listening to her, getting her counseling, getting outside help, talking to parents, etc but finally realizing she was just enjoying watching all us adults jump through her hoops --- I finally told her that doing that was illegal.

She hasn't hollered that particular threat for a few weeks....
