No Giveaways

I'm marking algebra exams and coming up with lots of 64s.  Tomorrow I will hear, "Ms, can't you just give me one extra point?"  I explain, over and over "I don't give points, you earn them."  They just don't understand.

Wait until the Regents exam this June... for the first time since scaling and conversion charts were introduced, the state has reversed policy on the rescoring of papers with grades of 60-64 (we used to be required to regrade, now we are forbidden).

Starting this year, once we have graded a question, we may not look at it again. What will this mean? A large number of students who would have barely passed with 65s will now end up failing with 63s or 64s.
