Maybe It Just Wanted To Learn Some Calculus

So I was daydreaming in class and I see this huge monster chillin' on the ceiling. I scream, "oh my god look!" and Mrs. POd doesn't hesitate for a second to take off her shoe and start swinging at it. Our hero! She deserves an award. That thing was ginormous.

(from our class facebook page)

(This was the biggest roach I have ever seen.  I tried climbing on a chair, but couldn't reach.  A tall boy volunteered to help, but when he got close, he got squeamish and ran away.  And, I finally got the round of applause I have been wanting for years.  Who cares if it wasn't for teaching!)

All it takes is swinging a shoe to kill a cockroach for a claim to fame. (and right before retirement too).

PO what were you thinking? An administrator comes in to observe you and you nail him with your shoe. Oh, what, you said roach. Nope, going with what I said!!

Oh my God, that's hilarious!!! You are my hero, cuz I wouldn't have gotten near that thing with a 10 foot pole!!!

My mother's classroom next-door neighbor accidently decapitated a bird's head as it tried to fly into the classroom. This was in front of the children (third grade) and rest of the day apparently was a 'killer and dismal' atmosphere.

There is a difference between a roach and a bird.

But the cheers were for teaching -- you taught them that one faces one's fears, you taught them that you have their back, you taught them that the conditions in the classroom are unacceptable, you taught them that women are not wimps, etc. You teach them in everything you do and it is a great lose to them all that you are retiring.
