My Shpilkes Saves The House

I'm compulsive and I can't sit still, something everyone always faults me for, until Saturday.

I noticed an empty detergent bottle sitting by the washing machine and went to throw it out but since my mind doesn't function as well as it should, I left it sitting on the dryer. I went up to finish cooking some pasta and noticed I had a spare window of three minutes, more than enough time to run down and retrieve the trash. I was smart enough not to tell my husband where I was going as he would have told me to wait. (Recycled garbage does not even go out until Friday.)

Upon opening the basement door, I was greeted with a torrential down pouring of hot water, water pouring at an alarming rate from the ceiling. My husband was able to quickly shut off the water to the house and we avoided a major disaster. (If not for the trip to the basement and my catching this leak almost immediately, everything would have been destroyed.)

Now, finding a plumber on a Saturday night is not an easy thing to do. But here is where my compulsiveness paid off again. I found a card a former colleague gave me about 8 years ago, offering plumbing and emergency repair service. I called and caught him as he and his wife were about to go to a movie. This wonderful man (and woman) came right over and my problem was fixed. I even got to spend some quality time with one of the most delightful women I have ever met.

So, next time anyone complains about my inability to sit still, I will show them this posting and the picture above.

What a way to start the new year, but glad it was caught in time.
Did your pipes freeze and cause a burst???

no, just a plug in an old pipe came undone.

Wow, that could have been so much worse. Still a pain in the rear, though, huh? Glad you caught it in time, and subsequently got to make a new friend. :)
