Convincing Him He Is Not Going Blind

My dad had cataract surgery last year.  The doctor prescribed reading glasses and distance glasses.  He tells me he reads fine with the reading glasses but can't see the television when he looks up.  I tell him to change glasses, which he does if I am in the room. He's doing paper work with the reading glasses and looks at the television. Then he complains he can't see it.  I again tell him to change the glasses.  He does and sees fine.

He keeps telling me he is going blind.  He tells me the glasses don't help.  Most of the time they stay in their cases where they don't help at all.

HELP!!!!!! (I am afraid to put him in bifocals.)

Oh my....you have the patience of a saint, my friend.

I did giggle a little at this, though, because I find myself doing the same thing sometimes. I need to get better at the "peering over the top of the glasses" thing. Or, maybe I should stop trying to read and watch tv at the same time!

Wish I had my Dad to giggle at! He'll never get it! Just keep reminding him what to do.

Are you sure you were not talking about my FATHER!!! The ONLY difference would be that instead of glasses substitute hearing aids. He will only wear one at a time and usually only when I am 'on duty' at his place! lol You got to love it, even though it can drive you over the edge at times!

Hi! I'm Jim and I found you thanks to 'Chitown Girl'. Think I'll stick around a bit!

My dad has been living with me since he broke his arm 2 weeks ago. My blood pressure is off the scale and he is driving us crazy but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love him and all his craziness.

My grandfather had his eccentricities when he often stayed with us on his trips from Florida. He even conned me into taking him to Home Depot for bathroom tiles. He wanted to serve gefilte fish on the tiles (and no this did not happen) for Passover Seder. (Daughter has also heard plenty of my grandparent stories- which are legendary)

Then 4 months later, he wanted to take the shingles off the roof of the house for his gravlax at a family friend's house on Erev Rosh Hashannah. The friends of the family offered to make a gorgeous wooden board for the grav lax. The board was finished and brought over. As soon as my grandpa got the board, he looked at my mom and said, "Now all we have do is let fire come spark from the board".

As eccentric as my grandpa was, the entire family misses him terribly and enjoyed his 'charm'. It was always part of who my grandpa was.

I wear Varalux rather than bifocals. However, I also have cataracts and will need surgery in the near future.

However, I still had an extra pair of glasses and had them made for distance only. I cannot read with them at all. But they are great for watching TV and since I hardly read while watching TV, it works.

If your dad reads and watches TV, he needs bifocals.

I wear Varilux as well. They won't work for him.
