Our school had a visit today from one of the district UFT reps. Speaking for my ATR buddies, I voice objections to today's hiring hall and the abysmal way these teachers are being treated.
His response:
The UFT fought hard for the hiring halls. The teachers only have to stay until the end of their school day.
By the way, the two ATRs in our building were on their way to the hiring hall when Mr. Unity Sucks came a calling. He couldn't understand why they weren't around as he had been in the building for an hour before I saw him. It never occurred to him that they were teaching.

UNITY always has a way of putting lipstick on the pig after they let the pig out naked. They should have endorsed Tony Avella for Mayor but they are Bloomberg's handmaidens; just as Neville Chamberlain's Munich Agreement set a policy of appeasement of Hitler's Germany, so did Unity's 2005 UFT contract set forth a policy of appeasement of Bloomberg. Some foolishly voted for since it had a "nice" salary increase. Unity has had a policy of appeasing Bloomberg who is no less a fascist than Mussolini. They are no more democratic than the Reichstag of 1939. History repeats itself in very strange ways.
Was this the same idiot they always send?
I was told the hiring hall was a joke. Many of the ATRs were lined up and given a quick review. Most of the jobs were in the most undesirable schools and good positions were few.
The good news is that the Principals who refuse to hire ATRs will lose their money for the vacancies as of October 31st.
Taht is pretty much what the ATRs I know told me too.
HIRING HALLS ARE ALWAYS A JOKE. We have one in Brooklyn on Monday 21. I am sure it will be the same. I hope that this time the people from the DOE do not send us into another room to waste the time as they always did. Maybe some people from the UFT will come and sit there and drink coffee as always.
Look at all one pages of the jobs they had before school started.

News flash on the contract negotiations between the United Federation of Teachers and the New York City Department of Education:
The UFT is inclined to give in on the ATR (Absent Teacher Reserve) issue, in order to secure a four percent salary increase in the next contract. The leaked word is that the union would accede to the termination (firing, dismissal) of teachers who could not find permanent assignments after six months.
Let's see what kind of lipstick-on-a-pig spin UNITY puts on the abandonment of the ATRs.
