It certainly did for me, when 50% of my students missed school to attend the Giants World Series victory parade. As one proud parent proclaimed, "This is a better education than my son would get at the best California schools."

While that parent was wrong, I think there is a difference between going to see your team's victory parade, and cutting class and not doing the work. However, if teachers are being held to a high standard while the kids and teams are not, this needs to be addressed at the next policy meeting with the principal.
