Makes Sense To Me

A reader's opinion:

Hi, Po'd,

I just have to get this off my chest. I believe in my heart of hearts that Bloomberg has only put Cathy Black up as a sacrificial lamb and knew that her appointment would be blocked. I think he really intends for one of the ed deformers to serve as chancellor. If he puts a noneducator up first and everyone screams foul, when he puts forth a name like Rhee or some such, the general public can no longer argue about the new chancellor not being an educator. So then only the teachers and the UFT and AFT will scream foul and we will look terrible again to the public, as cave men trying to stop any progress in the world of education.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for listening,

Wouldn't surprise me either. But Rhee caused more problems for the Washington mayor and she will take the spotlight over Bloomberg. I don't think the state would approve her either.

I have had this thought too, about Rhee. But since she had 3 years as DC chancellor, and a couple years teaching, would she need the waiver? I am not sure of her exact qualifications. But we wouldn't have the same argument about Rhee. But if she became Chancellor, I'd quit as soon as possible. Seriously.

RHee doesn’t need a waiver so if he picks her, she’s in. I always thought it was a ploy to get her. BUt, I heard that the new Florida Gov wants her. What would you pick? Run a state with a weak union or run a city where you would have a daily battle? Also, DC voted a mayor out to get rid of her, she won’t help Bloomberg.

I think that guess is wrong. If Bloomberg wanted a lightning rod, he'd have kept Klein. He's looking at becoming President in 2012. He needs to paint a smiley face on his various "reforms." They now include massive teacher layoffs, yet another way this mayor puts children first.

And that, in fact, is why he picked Black. That's what she does.

Has anyone thought that Black is just a diversion to turn our attention from the school closures?
