I just opened an e-mail (personal e-mail, I don't go near the DOE one all summer) from Mr. AP asking if I (and other math teachers) wanted to work Thursday marking regents exams. My first instinct was to answer yes. I've spent way too much money this summer and a little extra income wouldn't hurt.
And then I thought, I've been spending so much money that the little extra income really wouldn't help much.
So now I had a decision to make. I've decided to skip work. Six hours of work seems like nothing on paper but quite a bit while it is being done. Life is short. I need my play time.

Don't do it!
Enjoy a little more summer. :)
Good for you!!
I haven't done a lick of work yet! I think I can screw around for two more solid weeks, but then I'd better get my act together.
I am trying to finish my summer list before tomorrow (ha ha). Won't happen, but at least (at least!) I'll know what still needs to be done!
Have a great rest of the summer - kick back and relax - or (knowing you) grab your walking shoes and your camera and go exploring!
Everyday chores like laundry and grocery shopping are enough work for people like me. I wouldn't want to taint my summer by breathing DOE air.
Good job! I haven't really worked this summer. My first day back is tomorrow, and for the first time, I have nothing but good feelings about going back. Either I have a memory that is entirely too short, or rest, relaxation and play really do have restorative powers. I chose the later, so clearly I think you made the right choice.
Dear Mr. AP:
Hell NO!!!!
I spent my summer teaching summer school, to pay for a new kitchen. I also spent a week writing the EOC exams for the state. What a cool experience to add to my resume. I now have 3 weeks off, and I am already antsy to get back to work.
To each her own!
Mathematicamama: If I didn't want to work, I wouldn't. I'm old enough and have enough years in to retire any day I want. I just love having my summer free. Everyone is different. I am glad you are happy working.
Think of how much you would net after 6 hours of work (approx. 200 bucks) vs. the pure pleasure of a lazy summer day. At this point in my life, I'd sooner go a day without eating than work even 1 day during the summer.
Relax. You deserve it.
