Politically Incorrect Post

 



People who should not attend college:

1.  Anyone who can't correctly multiply 8 x 7 without a calculator.
2.  Anyone who can't write a coherent sentence.
3,  Anyone who can't read above a 5th grade level.
4.  Anyone who thinks attending class in not important.
5.  Anyone who thinks taking exams should be optional.
6.  Anyone who thinks leaving early or arriving late is acceptable.
7.  Anyone who doesn't think it is necessary to use the textbook.
8.  Anyone who refuses to study and/or do homework. 

Listen To The Kid

Society has got it wrong.  There is nothing wrong with being a ditch digger or doing other forms of manual labor.  It is an honest way to make a good living at salaries often higher than those of college graduates.  Not everyone wants to go to college and pursue a career behind a desk or wearing a white color.  Not everyone is capable of doing so.

Personally, I would rather have seen my children doing what they wanted to do, even if it meant digging ditches than being bored to death in a college class they can't understand and graduating with a degree that will at best qualify her for pouring coffee at Starbucks.

This country will always need people to build roads and dig holes.  Instead of putting down these vocations, we ought to start giving them the respect they have earned and they deserve.

I would like to thank all the ditch diggers out there who do the labor I am incapable of doing.  You are performing a service every bit as valuable as that of the more educated people that put you down.  You are doing a service that we do not have the ability to do.  We are all created differently.  It is time to embrace these differences and encourage them.  Respect those who choose not to go to college or whose talents like in a different direction.  The father is the one missing the point in this cartoon.

Home health care workers.

Bless the women (and men) who spend hours caring for the sick, disbled and elderly.

Bless their patience and their talent.

The woman who takes care of my dad is a saint.  She knows how to make him happy while doing everything in her power to take good care of him.  Even with the fractured shoulder he looks better now than he has in a long time.  He even seems happy.

I don't know this woman's education background.  I am guessing she is not a Harvard graduate because you don't usually find Ivy Leaguers doing this kind of work.  But, she is just as smart and talented as any of them.  My dad is lucky she pursued this career and lucky to have found her.  People who do the work she does need to be respected and paid well.  They provide a much needed service.  (She is also making a lot of money to send to her family, much better than many college grads.)

Maturity



It's a sign of maturity when a kid recognizes early on that college is not for him, at least not for him right now and decides to follow is dream of enlisting.  The boy knows he's smart and eventually he'll return.  He can't see wasting time and money now.

Let's hope Obama really does pull out of Iraq and doesn't involve us in any more wars so this student will be alive and well and able to reap the benefits of the GI bill for his education.
