My Bargain

I got into Manhattan early Wednesday so I stopped in Macy's to use the bathroom.  The one on the second floor is brand new and beautiful.

The sink has glowing lights underneath, automatic faucet, soap dispenser and hand blower all in one.

Then, I made the error of walking through the shoe department, which is the entire second floor.  I thought I would just browse until I came across the 75% off section with a sign offering an additional 25% on purchases of two or more pairs.

I fell in love with these funky little flats, so different from anything I ever owned, I just had to have them.

 And then I saw these pumps.  I never where heels, I might never wear them but I just had to own them.  And. of course they are red.  I even have several weddings to attend, so they might even get worn.

And, as I was about to pay, I saw these.  They also had to be mine.

 

 

 

The best part of all this is all three pairs only cost me $32!!!!  I will have the best dressed feet for a little bit of money.  The hardest part was sticking to my rule of getting rid of one thing for every new thing I bring home.  (I cheated and got rid of two sweaters and one pair of shoes although it should have been all shoes to hit the give away bag.)

 

Blue Moon

Got to see a blue moon while having dinner on the terrace at the Thayer Hotel on the grounds of West Point.  Seeing it over the Hudson was magnificent.

Got a great groupon bargain--$157 which included the night at hotel, a $50 dinner credit and buffet breakfast.  Pictures posted soon. 

Just By Cancelling



When I finally convinced my husband to go for TimeWarner's Triple Play (no FIOS in my neighborhood), we got a year of Showtime free.  Well, the year is almost up and we got an offer to keep it at a reduced rate. Since we barely watched, we decided not to take the offer.  I just called to cancel and was given another year free!  Maybe now I will give it a try!

My Bargain

I love a bargain so when a Groupon for a $7.00 Atlantic City trip, complete with $10 food credit and $5 slot credit came up, I just had to grab it.  Even the thought of being confined on the bus for so long didn't keep me from this deal.

The day started out great.  The Hampton Luxury Liner had big leather, reclining seats, a movie, Internet and snacks.  This sure beat driving.  The only hitch was the bus hit a car (or more likely, the car hit the bus) coming out of the Midtown Tunnel and we waited almost two hours (thanks Bloomberg) for a cop to write up an accident report.  We would not have been able to continue the trip if my husband had not thought of a way to fix the molding on the bus.  He was the hometown hero of the day.



The bus driver was so grateful, he ended up giving us $20 buffet vouchers.  We even made $4.70 with the $10 we were given.  (Neither one of us likes to gamble.)

The vacation/retirement is off to a great start.  My poor husband is worn out.  He is happy to see me working part time in the fall.  I don't know how many more daily activities he can take.

For all of you out there that love to eat out and like to save money, I recommend restaurant.com. You have to join, but that part is free. For $5 you can buy $10 gift certificates to many restaurants and for $10 you can buy certificates worth $25. Be careful, and read the fine print for restrictions (there aren't that many.) Wait until the end of the month of make your purchase as the certificates go on sale and are 50 - 60% off.

Looking for something to do yesterday, we printed a certificate for Mim's. The place was extremely elegant, a much nicer place than I usually lunch at. The certificate cost me $1.20 and my lunch bill (including two meals and a beer) was only $15. My husband had dinner last night with a friend at the Barefoot Peddler. Their meal, fajitas and two margaritas came to $16 plus the $4 certificate.
