Mosquito Heaven
I understand the lack of air conditioners in Iveland as the country rarely gets above 70 degrees. But, I don't understand why there are no screens in the windows. The mosquito population is feasting on human flesh.
Oh my hell, you're giving me flashbacks!! The last time I was in Italy, we stayed in a house that had no screens on the windows, either, and we were eaten alive every night!! The only thing on the windows were big, heavy wooden shutters. They helped a tiny bit if you closed them, but then there was NO air circulation! It was HORRIBLE!!! We took the suggestion of a family friend and started leaving cloves of garlic, slightly crushed, on the window sills at night to keep out the mosquitoes. It helped a little, but not nearly enough. Thank the Lord my parents' house has screens. AND air-conditioning! I don't care if the ARE the only ones in the entire village. Ah, those crazy Americans...
