The Elephants

The elephants, the ones who won't forget, who held their ground and did not go to the party.

1. The teacher who was told to transfer because she did not share his "vision". Good test scores, excellent relations with students and parents meant nothing to Suit. She remembers.

2. The teacher who was ignored when a close family member passed away. The who was given no slack as she took off to care for the dying relative.

3. The school aide who was invited to Suit's "coronation" when he became principal and then was told to serve the coffee.

4. The para who was humiliated for doing his job too well.

5. The cafeteria lady who had major heart surgery but never even got a get well card or a phone call inquiring about her health.

6. The teacher who has been threatened and written up because she dared to defend a colleague a few years ago.

7. The AP who is in the rubber room because he wouldn't wear a tie.

8. The AP who fixed the programs of over 100 kids, made one mistake and had programming privileges taken away from him.

9. The teacher who got up 2 minutes early from a faculty conference so she would not be late to her class.

10. The teacher who was written up for using a cell phone in the hall even though the call was to a doctor and that was the only free time the teacher had.

11. The teacher who was not given the PTA Heart Award because Suit said "she was not the kind of person he was looking for."

12. The wonderful security staff we used to have.

13. The teacher who was yelled at for bubbling attendance sheets while Suit was speaking.

14. The teacher who was bad mouthed, by Suit, for privately commenting on something he did.

15. The school aid who requested a change in hours two days a week so she could go to school.

These are my people. These are the ones I am proud to call colleagues.

Seriously, this stuff went on? What about your union?
In - con-ceivable.

These are people with integrity.

The union would do nothing because there was no threat of job action. Many of these are just not issues the union will deal with.

AP's, security and school aides have a different union.

I was written up for doing at least 4 of those things during my former principal's reign of terror. I didn't go to his party, either.

You'd think that in all the years Suit was at Packemin HS that he would have matured somewhat and at least learn to be less arrogant and nasty, but that never came to pass. He never learned that you get more with honey than vinegar. I remember observing Suit bellowing down the hallway at a hapless dean or school aide, stridently ordering them to pick up the piece of paper that was torturing him on the floor. How about the teacher who was caring for an elderly family member; a couple of years down the road and very shortly before the family member dies, Suit makes sure that teacher got a counseling letter for absences. No mention of the Family Medical Leave Act, no prior conversation with that teacher to determine why there were these absences, just a letter in the file, on top of this teacher's stress. Of course neither Suit nor any of his courtiers made any mention of the teacher's loss, nor were there any expressions of sympathy. That teacher was no fool and did not spend a penny paying any tribute to Suit; moreover, that teacher was in good company. The "good ol' boys" club at Packemin is diminished, with basically only the CL left to represent the old guard. Perhaps new leadership will provide the professional inspiration we all could use.

I forgot to add the following:

1. The para who wanted her daughter to come to Packemin Hi, but Suit said no.

2. The teacher who needed help getting her daughter into another nearby HS and Suit said no.

3. The guy who could not get a garbage can for his trailer.
