More Truthful Than ARIS

Mervin's mother verified his what he told me about his middle school performance.

Are you telling me that teacher's grades are being changed in your computer system so that it appears that students who failed actually passed?

If this is the case, why not greet each student at the door the first day of school and say "Here is your credit". "Have a nice life and I hope you are successful in your future endeavors".

I'm just saying the kids and parents think the grades are one thing and ARIS says something else. Soemthing is wrong somewhere.

Was mom concerned that the grade was changed? Was mom happy that he passed? Was mom upset that he did not know math and was passed on? Did mom insist that he be moved back to learn the material, or was mom confident that you could teach him enough for both years? I am also teaching algebra to my current geometry students who "passed" last year, even though they failed the EOC exam. I think that if the school cannot make a teacher teach overload, they just fill the room with students that need to be taught twice as much.
