Once, I solved the equation x + 6 = 13 and got 8 as an answer. My teacher looked at me and said "POd, that is not the solution." I then said, "Ms, that is my solution. Can you give me a better one?" Without blinking an eye, she did just that. She also said "A solution that does not work is not a solution." I failed that test.
This teacher did not rely on her students to solve their own problems.
Anyone, even a non math teacher should know that if a solution does not check out, the problem is not solved.
