There is this guy in my night class who is always trying to get away with things. He really is a great guy, very funny, concerned about doing well, but not exactly a scholar in mathematics. He missed class again tonight and I went ballistic on him. We've been e-mailing back and forth and I just had to share his latest. If only he would put this effort into the subject, he might actually be passing.
professor I wouldn't try so hard and make excuses for every little thing if I didn't like you.....you're a wise lady whom I can learn a lot from.........just don't stop teaching e/ expressing your opinion......even if its not something I want to hear......THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU....and not blowing smoke up my ass!
Sincerely,
Rich

I feel your pain.
I was looking on teacher tube for things to make my math-ed students watch, and I found this:

I have a love-hate relationship with the slogan in the video (for community college students): "You don't have to do the homework for this class now--you can do it next semester". I somehow get the feeling that this might be a relevant sentiment for this student... I hate it when students who are otherwise perfectly capable of doing fine in a class shoot themselves in the foot by skipping class and not doing homework.
