I Must Be Missing Something

The DOE is running radio ads recruiting teachers.

I heard the commercial on Z100 this morning as I was getting ready for work.

They are looking for people who want to be heroes.

There are 100s of ATRs without classrooms, yet the city feels it must advertise for more teachers.

School budgets are at an all time low. Extra curricular activities are being cut. Tutoring programs are being cut.
MONEY IS BEING SPENT ON ADVERTISING!!!!

I just don't get it.

Happy New Year Pissed! Of course they are looking for new teachers. They can't wait to replace us. They probably have a plan on how to make our lives even more miserable in 09. Their aim is to drive us out and replace us with stepford newbies who don't talk back or ask questions. So much for a Happy New Year at the DOE!

I'll stay on just to drive them crazy! Unless of course they want to give me a nice big buyout!

I was just reading on another blog about a pricncipal who is upset because senior teachers in his school have not retired. he is blaming them for his budget woes.

The only thing that comes to mind is WTF?!?!

An ATR is a teacher who does not have a class because their school has been closed or their position has been eliminated. They are still on the city payroll and working as very expensive subs. It is demoralizing to the teachers and it is a waste of city money.

Do the letters ATR stand for something?

There is a new Fellows class, too.

ATR stands for Absent Teacher Reserve.

Are there truly ATRs out there who are worth hiring but can't find a job?

There are wonderful ATRs. It is not their fault their schools closed.

What an awful comment! ou obviously don't have a clue as to what an ATR is or how a teacher becomes one.
