I am a UFT retiree. I pay dues every month. I want a say in the union!!Don't jump on me, working teachers. I want a say about the things that affect me. I want to have a choice of classes to take, seminars to attend and trips to go on. The contract is important, extremely important, but not to me. I am aware of the crap the city is trying to put on teachers now, I am aware of VAM and I don't like it any more than working teachers, but that doesn't give me the right to have a say on it. IT DOES NOT AFFECT ME!!!!!!!
I resent Mulgrew's sending UFT reps to a Florida meeting to wine and dine and spread the UNITY gospel. My money is paying for these excursions and meals. I am willing to bet most Florida retirees haven't taken time away from their golf games, tennis matches and early bird dinners to follow the news and see what today's teachers are up against.
I am a UFT retiree. I should not be voting, but, as long as I have the ability, I will be voting with MORE, voting against unity, voting for teachers, which in turn votes for children.

(And ew to Unity hacks trying to get retirees in Florida to vote with them. Word has it that Randi and Michael are slightly nervous. Randi has been retorting back and being spiteful through tweets on Twitter).
I don't think they are worried at all.
i agree -- they know reality and have given New Action 10 Exec Bd seats to help them confuse people not familiar with MORE who might think New Action is a real opposition. People who won't notice that Mulgrew will also be running atop the NA ticket.
I think a little bit yes..but only a little..Randi has been yelling at Chicago teachers and asking why they are supporting MORE candidates in the upcoming elections.
Randi and Julie have also gone into a tweeting spar a little as well where Randi was caught through her own spinning....
Plus lots of negative and rude comments on the MORE blog which some feel are Unity hacks.
It is all on Twitter or on the MORE blog to see...
I have said it before -- why is there no legal action against the union? No faction, MORE or anyone else, can access retirees. Only UNITY has access to retiree mailing lists, only UNITY has access to the union "newspaper", only UNITY has been able to get into working teachers' mailboxes without issue (read Norm's continued blog postings about MORE people being challenged when placing materials). I am a recent retiree, forced out early because of both the DoE idiocy as well as UNITY self-serving incompetence. I truly believe that there are hundreds, if not thousands of us retirees who want to get rid of UNITY if not for our own issues but because we know what has been done to public education in NY by the Bloomberg administration, aided and abetted by the union. But we can not get any MORE literature and only because I left the system as an activist and a whistle-blower am I aware of MORE. Others left the system, with their teaching tails between their legs, but are not aware that there is an alternative to business as usual with our ineffectual union.
I had a class this morning in the Bronx. On the table on ne side of the lobby were several pieces of information, including a "Unity Newsletter" clearly marked as such. Where were they when all the machinations occurred to displace ATRs and allowed senior teachers to be marginalized and harassed? I have never voted for Unity or for any contract. I wonder how quickly a "MORE" newsletter would have been removed from that same table. The UFT increasingly resembles the Kremlin a la 1964.
I support MORE in any way I can. UNITY is a catastrophe.
I am a retiree and completely agree. Having been to Florida, I can tell you that the retirees aren't keeping up with what's happening. But since I can vote, I will also vote for MORE.
