Fear

He walked the halls, going from room to room looking to admonish the teacher who had a student or students walking in late.  There was glee in his eyes as he saw one enter the room of the person he is out to get.

I am no longer a part of it, but it still bothers me.  How can anyone work in an environment like this?  How can anyone concentrate on helping their students when they are constantly afraid for their jobs?  Fear is the predominant feeling of the classroom teacher today.

So how's is the student's lateness the teacher's fault?

Teachers I am sure contact parents or find out why the student is late.

Why go after the teacher instead of the student? I always felt lateness should be part of an administrator's job, not the teachers. I remember reading that an elementary principal used to force parents that bought their kids in late to sit in the auditorium for time out.

I had a kid who was late every morning and both she and the parent didn't seem to care until the day she walked in on a test and got a zero.

as an atr, i have been struggling with how little these people care about education. i have a license in high school chemistry but this is the second week i have been sent to elementary schools. i have told the union and the doe that i don't have the proper training to teach elementary. so today when the principal and assistant principal gave me a program to teach kindergarden, i told them i was ill-equipped to teach early childhood. They told me to just read books and sing with the children! talk about pedagogy! then they went further to tell me they could write me up as and atr and i should do whatever i am told. they tried to intimidate me. wow!! it didn't work!

Everything is the teacher's fault in today's world.

just like when the Department of Health comes into a facility and shuts down the site due to 'safety hazard and construction being incomplete'...who was the first person to blame and was told that this individual 'caused the safety concern?"...

If you answered correctly, DING..DING..DING...YOU WIN A PRIZE, the teacher, obviously...

I wrote something similar to this 'fear' issue in schools back in July.

Its worth reading and mentioning again, since some specifics were also in my blog post.

To the ATR:

I certainly think that not following the principals orders could lead to insubordination charges.

I would find out if you could file a grievance because very little in the ATR agreement is being followed.

Also, check out Ednote (look to the Good Reads section on the right side of this blog). They have been working with ATRs and their issues.
