I believe the NEA is opposed, but the AFT favors improving it. That policy has to be changed. This fiasco of a piece of legislation is aimed at harming public education. Why modify it? We should just throw the thing out.
Around here, the problem isn't necessarily a teacher shortage. School staffing is based on funding, which has been reduced by millions of $$$. My district has cut teachers. This is a sad situation, because the teacher-power is out there.
On the other hand, my district has been able to find the $$$ to finance new upper management positions and fund a pet project which will financially benefit the same company that publishes the state tests used to meet the requirements of NCLB.
