Not A Big Deal

She didn't wear a jacket because being a teenager means you don't listen to the weather forecast. I don't go out without listening so of course I had one.

She was going to visit a college in Manhattan, traveling by bus and train and would get home late.

My car was half a block away and I was going straight home.

I made her take my jacket.

She thought it was a big deal.

It was nothing. I knew she would return it the next day.

One day after school in the middle of a snowstorm, I saw one of my former students standing outside shivering in a t-shirt. He was waiting for his choir concert to start - in three hours. I took off my sweatshirt and ran back to him from my car and handed it to him; although his friends laughed, he put it right on. I got it back the next day too.
