Black Friday

I don't understand the hoopla of stores opening at midnight or 4 AM.

I happened to be up early this morning so I decided to head over to Macy's (just a 5 minute trip) to use my $10 coupons.  The store and the parking lot were empty.

The customers that ran out last night are home, tucked in their beds now.  Was it really worthwhile for the stores to open at those ridiculous hours?  Wouldn't the sales be the same at say 8 in the morning?

Macy's on 34th Street was mobbed.

My nieces used to get up early and do lots of Black Friday shopping and saved a fortune. I suppose if your finances are tight and you are afraid that thing on your kid's list will be sold out, you do it.

Not me. I will wait for cyber Monday.

I understand, but the stores will make the same money during normal hours if they give the same bargains then.

We visited the local mall and my son was the only customer; one store we went to didn't have his size in a shirt that all the male salespeople were modelling. I went on line, and will buy this shirt for him for the same 40% off with free shipping. I don't get this Black Friday shopping mania where vulnerable bargain hungry consumers are whipped into a shopping frenzy by the media, much like a form of religious hysteria. Cyber Monday makes so much more sense. I'm with you, Schoolgal!

I agree, especially as it's so unfortunate that all those salespeople & other workers must leave their Thanksgiving dinners &/or wake up at some ungodly hour to go to work. Aren't they, too, entitled to a holiday?!
